But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

II Timothy 3: 1-2 NKJV

The year has been full of ups and downs, and there are several people who have made it worthwhile. Instead of focusing on people that made us mad, it’s healthier and more refreshing to focus on the people that made the year worthwhile and to appreciate them and thank God for bringing them our way. We are designed by God to live in communities and to function in teams. No matter how talented, rich or strong you are, you need the contributions of others to make progress and live a successful life.

A lot of times we focus on the big people in our lives, but this time around I want us to extend our appreciation list to those important people that are not so big in our lives, whose presence in our lives and work this year have been significant, those people who have made both tangible and intangible contributions: that usher in your church, whose smile and kind words mend your heart and soften your hardest countenance; your driver that has saved you several troubles; your staff who closes late, goes the extra mile, takes personal risks unknown to you; your go-to friend or colleague whose advice, encouragement and perspective to issues always leaves you lifted and inspired; your parents who always have your back; your siblings who have supported you with prayers, resources and time; what about those your church choir whose songs always lifts up your spirit.

Your boss, mentor, team lead and pastors. It is time to let them know in a special way they have made a difference in your life this year. Send them a special handwritten thank-you note, nothing generic; package a gift no matter how small, let it reflect how much you value their contributions to your life this year. It’s time to let someone know that their life was of a great value to you. It’s a great way to end the year.
