“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”
II Corinthians 3:18 NKJV
Yesterday, we learnt that contained in the Word of God is a graphic illustration and image of our true identity in Christ. That who we are, that is, our identity can only be derived from the Word of God; not our past, experience, people’s opinion of us and that until we come to the full realization of who we are, we cannot live out the fullness of our potential in Christ.
Gideon kept threshing wheat in hiding out of fear of the Midianites, but all along he was a deliverer. Then one day he received the revelation of his true identity through the Word of God – “Mighty man of valor”.
The revelation brought about a transformation that led to series of decisions that brought about the liberation of his people. He became the solution in his time. The change in Gideon’s story did not begin with a change in his environment, but with a change in his vision. When God called him a “mighty man of valor,” Gideon was still in the same location, under the same oppression, and with the same limitations. What changed was the mirror he was looking into. He stopped seeing himself through fear and began to see himself through God’s Word.
This is the power of the Word as a mirror. When we behold ourselves in it consistently, the Spirit of God goes to work—reshaping our thoughts, renewing our confidence, and aligning our actions with our true identity. Transformation is not something we force; it is something that happens as we behold. The more we look, the more we become.
Many believers struggle not because they lack potential, but because they are still responding to life from a distorted self-image. But God’s Word invites us daily to lay aside every false label and behold who He says we are. As we do, courage replaces fear, obedience replaces hesitation, and purpose replaces confusion.
Today, be intentional about the mirror you stand before. Do not allow circumstances, past failures, or human opinions define you. Return again and again to the Word of God and let it show you who you truly are in Christ. As you behold His glory, trust the Spirit to complete the work of transformation in you—until your life begins to reflect the image you have seen.
