As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?
Psalms 42: 1-2 NKJV.
I will stand my watch and set myself on the rampart, and watch to see what He will say to me, and what I will answer when I am corrected.
Habakkuk 2:1 NKJV
A Nigerian Proverbs says, “It is the child whose arms are opened that enjoys the privilege of being lifted by the mother.” Our Father, God is always willing and ever ready to speak to His children, guide us by His Spirit into all truth and reveal secret things to us but to enjoy this blessing, we need to rightly position ourselves to hear Him. We must show willingness and a strong desire to hear Him. Casual seekers can’t receive from Him.
The Psalmist says, “As the deer pants after the water brooks so my soul pants after you.” How hungry are you to hear God? How much do you value His leading and guidance? What value do you place on hearing Him, because those who seek, find. If you desire Him so much you will be willing to create an atmosphere conducive for you to hear Him. Prophet Habakkuk declares, “I will stand upon my watch and set myself on the rampart” – away from all distractions competing for my attention. It shows the value he placed on hearing God. Like most spiritual blessings, the problem is never with God but with us.
He always responds to those who desire Him. If you value His voice and desire to hear Him, it will show in what you’re willing to do to hear Him. Nothing will limit you, no excuse will be good enough. Zacchaeus’s natural limitations couldn’t prevent him from seeing Jesus. All he wanted was to catch a glimpse but when Jesus saw his strong desire He granted him the rare privilege of hosting Him. The proof of desire is pursuit. Let your hunger for Him be like that of Zacchaeus.
