Oftentimes, the reason why believers are confused as to the origin or source of their problems is that they have not fully ascertained the answer to the question in the title of today’s devotional. Many people do not know who or whose influence is at work in certain seasons and in different circumstances of their lives.
So they confuse something that God is doing for the work of the enemy and they pray fire and brimstones on their experiences. Or they mistake the devil’s machinations for an act of God. The one way to clear up this confusion is to examine the character of both persons through the eyes of the scriptures so that we may know who they are and what to expect from whom.
Here is the nature and character of Satan as the bible describes him:
- God of this world (John 12:31; 2 Corinthians 4:4).
- Liar (John 8:44).
- Tempter (Mathew 4:1; 1 Thessalonians 3:5).
- Deceiver (Revelation 12:9).
- Thief (John 10:10).
- Murderer (John 8:44).
- Masquerades like an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14).
- Puppeteer (Luke 22:3).
- Accuser of the brethren (Revelation 12:10).
- Wicked spirit (1 John 3:10-12).
- Fallen light/spirit (Ezekiel 28:18; Isaiah 14:12).
- Evil one (1 John 5:19).
- Our adversary (1 Peter 5:8).
- The prince of the power of air (Ephesians 2:2).
