The story we started yesterday reminds me of David and Saul. David was a man of scriptures from his youth, he was always meditating on the Word. It wasn’t a habit he formed when he ascended the throne, it was the habit that brought him to the throne, sustained him on the throne and established him on the throne eternally. Listen to what he has to say about the Word – “Your words are my meditation all day long, for I delight in your commandments.” Saul was a man of the flesh, totally devoid of the spirit and alien to the Word of God. Their content showed in their responses to issues. One genuinely repented, valuing his spiritual relationship more than his physical reception, the other was more interested in his physical reception.
Your response to crises is a betrayal of your content and value system and a determinant of your outcome. Job’s wife said ‘curse God and die’, that sure revealed what was on her inside. Satan will present you opportunities to compromise; sleep with your boss’ wife and earn a promotion/favor, refuse and go to jail, which will it be? Everybody is doing it or refuse to defile yourself with the King’s meat. Men who distinguished themselves in the bible were men of the Word, Daniel was one of such. Daniel 9, “I Daniel discover by books…” It was a habit he had cultivated and it determined his choices throughout his lifetime. He was attacked several times, plotted against, thrown into the lion’s den, demoted but recalled. He was both a man of the Word and prayer. It is practically impossible for you to be a man of the Word and not be a man of prayers.
So what comes next in all of this? Find out tomorrow as we conclude the tale of two friends.
