I have heard so many people ask me, “How can I hear God?” It is often perceived as an achievement or attainment of some spiritual mountain Everest. But my question is what did you have to do to make your earthly father talk to you? The answer has always been NOTHING.

But you see there are reasons we don’t hear God even when He is speaking to us. In the natural, if your father is talking to you but the sound system is on, all your friends are talking to you at the same time and your favorite TV show is on or the World Cup is showing; the likelihood of hearing your father’s voice is very slim, because you’re distracted and you’re also likely to confuse what you thought you heard and its source from the noise around you.

We live in a noisy world, with lots of things competing for our attention; the voice of our flesh, that is full of doubt, fear, lust, and all the confusing philosophical ideologies we have filled our minds with, the social media, etc. Hence the need to turn down the noise especially when we are seeking God for direction. Now, fasting helps us to do that. Fasting helps to quieten the voice of our flesh, our spirit becomes more receptive to hearing God and our heart is tuned to decipher the voice of God.

When we turn down the noise in our head, then we are in a position to be able to hear and recognize the still small voice.
