So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN THE HOUSE?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.”

II Kings 4:2 NKJV

A widow came to Elisha the prophet to rescue her and her children from her debtor, in an attempt to solve the problem he asked her “what do you have?” Jesus’ ministry was faced with the task of feeding over five thousand people at some point. When the disciple turned to Jesus, He told them to look inward. In both of these cases they found things within their reach that they didn’t attach much value to but in it lay the miracle.

Col. Sander had suffered divorce, gone bankrupt and was ready to commit suicide, but with a desire to leave an inheritance for his only daughter, he resorted to the only thing he had but never attached much value to – a special chicken recipe – which led to the birth of one of the most phenomenal innovations in the food business – “Kentucky fried chicken (KFC)”.

Mrs. Megbope goes to work every day living from pay check to pay check, unable to meet her family needs. Unsatisfied, knowing there is more to her than a cycle of unfulfilling ventures, she resigned her job. At a dinner of moimoi for her family, through the help of her sister in-law, a skill was discovered and a business was born from just a thousand naira, making moimoi, an ordinary and common family delicacy. Today, she has been to the White House serving moimoi, has appeared at Global economic summit, and is inspiring the world with her story of how she turned ordinary an everyday Nigeria food with less than $3 to a multi-million Naira business at NO LEFT OVERS.

There is something within your reach, an idea, a skill, a talent, an ability, a concept waiting to be discovered that can transform your life. When we pray, God will use something we have, but despise: your ability to crack people up, your ability to always have the right word for people no matter what they are going through, your grandma’s recipe, your style of cooking a particular delicacy, a design concept, your insight for color combination, a method of presentation, your ability to negotiate, your captivating speaking voice, a pharmaceutical innovation from common leaves that has worked for your family for years, a braiding skill, a knitting technique. There are things within and around you waiting to be valued so they can in turn add value to you.

I pray that God opens your eyes of understanding that you may see the thing meant for your lifting in Jesus’ name.
