“So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.”

Acts 20:32 NKJV

The Bible says “in all labor there’s profit” (Prov. 14: 23). Therefore there is profit that comes from laboring in the Word. God has a business approach to life, and that is why He said “I did not say to the seed of Jacob seek me in vain” (Isaiah 45:19), that means there is benefit attached to seeking God. In the same vein, there are benefits that come from reading or studying the Word of God for yourself. We have learnt that the Word is able to impart the wisdom we need in any given situation, can build you up and can also give you an inheritance.

The Word of God will not only reveal to you what is yours but will also show you how to appropriate it. How does the Word give us our inheritance? The Word will kit and empower you with the details of who you are and what belongs to you through the sacrifice of Christ. You will see the truth of who you are and what is yours, by reason of the finished work of Christ i.e. His death, burial and resurrection. This knowledge will affect your desires and change your taste. You will see yourself differently and begin to question anything and everything in your life that is contrary to what the Word has revealed to you.

This will boost your self-esteem and increase your confidence in the place of prayer, because you are not just begging and hoping you will be pitied. Rather like a well versed lawyer, you’ll be making a demand concerning what is legally yours. You will be authoritative in declaration, you will make decrees with assurance, because you are not guessing, you are not hoping something might happen for you. You will be bold to demand and take what is yours and be authoritative in rejecting what is contrary to you.

As we walk through the second half of the year, let the word of God hand over your inheritance in Christ to you. Don’t live through the month of August and the rest of your life without enjoying the benefit of your inheritance. Like Paul, I commend you unto God and the Word of His grace that you might be built up into a colossal personality and walk in the fullness of your inheritance in Christ Jesus.
