“So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.”

Acts 20:32 NKJV

Yesterday, we learnt that the Word of God can impart unto us the needed wisdom to come out of any kind of situation, and experience God’s best for our lives. As we turn to the Word, we gain insights on how to approach challenges, difficult tasks and accomplish our dreams.

Not only is the Word of God able to impart unto us wisdom, the Word is also able to build us up. Before you are able to undertake certain tasks, you need to be fit for it. You don’t go to the battle front straight from the street, there is time of building the street guy into a soldier. There are dreams that we have in our heads and visions we carry in our hearts, but we need to become the men and women that can fulfil those dreams and accomplish those visions. The Word of God builds into us the character, inner strength, the faith, the mindset required and the belief system needed to live our dream.

“…Which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance”, the Word will first build you before it gives you. There is an adage of the Yoruba speaking people of Africa that says “the child you refuse to build, will sell the house you built” therefore before God will give you, He will build you. The Word will build patience into you, faith, honor, tenacity, sound values, diligence, excellent spirit, work on your motives etc.

The Word of God is powerful, piercing into the heart and checking the intent of man. God’s Word will purify your inward being and your inner motives, as fire the silver.  As you desire to fulfil your dream, to become the Mr. Universe of your own field, think of a body builder rippling all over with muscles, full of well-toned, nicely shaped, big and bulging biceps and triceps, standing in the glory of his body to the admiration of all; in the same vein you and I need to be built up, developed, matured and tempered in order to fit into that role and occupy that position that God has already designed for us. Allow God to, through His Word, build you, both in terms of character and competence.

As you study God’s Word and yield yourself to its reproofs, rebuke, correction, inspiration and motivations, as you accept who the word says you are, you are being built.  The more you yield yourself to the word of God, the more built you are. The faster you respond to the Word, the faster you become the man that is ready to receive your inheritance in Christ. So like a body builder, go to the gym (the Bible) today and respond to the demands of the trainer – “the Word of God and the Spirit of God”. Your faith will be built, your character will be shaped, your motives will be purged and you will emerge The Mr. Universe the world has been waiting for.
