Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.

Hebrews 12:1 NKJV

Life is a journey, success is a journey, and hence the Jewish greeting “shalom”, which means have a successful journey, have a good journey, fare well. As much as it is God’s plan for us to have a good success, Satan always seeks to trip us from time to time. Many of us began the journey of 2024 with lots of zest, confidence, hope, faith, dreams, plans etc., but there are things that can slow us down and keep us down. The Bible calls them weight and sins that easily entraps and drains us of power, passion and purpose, and ultimately render us immobile.

What weight are you easily susceptible to? Discouragement? Fear? Anxiety? What are the things that easily clutter your mind and drain your focus? Could it be some legitimate needs e.g. employment, whom to marry, school fees, where will money for the business come from, how to pay the bills, a loss, the death of a loved one, bad memories, unforgiveness, past hurt, anger and all kinds of negative emotions, etc. that have now become a major burden weighing you down and preventing you from making progress. What is that thing that keeps shutting down your system? It could even be a new found love that have become an obsession, beclouding you from making informed progressive decisions. What has slowed you down all year long? Is it indecision, wrong association or strife?

Whatever they are, how well you’re able to manage and control those weights and sins will determine not only how 2024 will end, but who you would have become by December 2024 and beyond. It is crucial you know the weights, ask God to help you, build a healthy accountability support system and begin to lay those weights aside. No matter how far into the year we are, you can start to deal with them now in order to have a beautiful journey.
