And when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
I Corinthians 11:24 NKJV
Jesus became sin for us. He took our place. We were the guilty ones deserving of death, but Jesus took our place. On the tree, figuratively he became us. But literally He took our sin, sickness, disease, curse, poverty and was condemned. Therefore, when we take the communion we are celebrating our Lord Jesus who became for us sin, sickness, disease, poverty, curse, etc.
The communion is a powerful spiritual exercise that brings back to life the essence of the sacrifice of Christ. It is in memory of our Lord Jesus Christ. The memory of His suffering and death, and what that meant and still means for us. Since Jesus did not die for Himself but for us, each time we celebrate His death we are actually celebrating the great exchange, that is, our death with Him. As we show forth His death; we declare the judgment over sin, sickness, diseases, curse and the end of Satan’s legal right over our life. Jesus’s death brought us victory, liberty and newness of life.
It is a memorial that is recognized in the three realms of heaven, earth and hell. In heaven, it is a celebration of God’s eternal purpose for man while on earth, it is a celebration of our victory and freedom; and in hell it is a reminder of Satan’s defeat and an end to the reign of the kingdom of hell over man.
