And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
Matthew 28:18-20 NKJV
Having a clear understanding of the assignment is the key to fulfilling it. Without proper understanding of the assignment one is left to grope in the dark and may perhaps deviate from it. It becomes easy for the devil to substitute the original mission for what looks like it but isn’t.
There are a plethora of examples of people who left their first assignment and deviated from the original calling of God for their lives. Hence it’s important to understand the assignment and to know the resources given to us by God to fulfill this assignment.
For one, we need authority in our quest and so Christ graciously tells us that “all authority in heaven and earth is given to me. And the same I give to you…” It is therefore important that we know the scope of our authority and the sphere of our operation. Jesus said the scope of our authority traverses all the heaven and the earth and the sphere of our operation encompasses ‘all nations’.
And now that we’ve established that, we see that nothing should stand in our way whether in heaven or on earth as regards the making of disciples and baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. And that there is nowhere on the face of the earth that should be left untouched by the truth of the gospel. This is the assignment. It’s about time we dropped all excuses and begin to run with it.
Happy September. Here’s to understanding your assignment and running with it.
