But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge.

II Peter 1:5 NKJV

God’s desire for you and I is that we live in the fullness of all that Christ has done for us and for that to happen we need to have faith in all that Christ has done for us. It is our faith that takes hold of all that grace has provided. “It is of faith that it might be by grace,” so you see faith is always in what grace has done and what grace has done is accessible only through faith as far as God is concerned. However, because we live in this material world we don’t deal only with spirit beings and spiritual materials only, there are other things we need to possess to fully maximize all that is ours in Christ while we live in this material world. While we live in this material world where we deal with all kinds of people, situation and different cultures, faith alone is not enough, we need to add to our faith.

This is where the rubber meets the road for a lot believers. We don’t know the acceptable behavior required to fully function in a place per time, we don’t know the relevant attribute that gives access to certain people and place. Every profession has its own ethics, every organization has its own culture, every culture or civilization has its own norms both written and unwritten. No matter your talent and the grace you carry, if you don’t operate in those virtues you will not be accepted and you won’t be able to manifest the fullness of God’s grace upon your life.

Hence, the bible says we should add to our faith virtue. Jesus so succinctly captured it in Luke’s gospel “And He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s” (Luke 20:25 NKJV). You don’t need to compromise your faith to express virtues required in a setting. Paul further echoes this in his letter to the Romans, “Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor” (Romans 13:7 NKJV.)

Thank God for your faith, but for the purpose of being effective and impactful on earth add virtue to your faith. I see you rising in Jesus name.
