Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.”
Matthew 2:13 NKJV
Divine guidance is an integral part of divine protection, safety and deliverance. Divine protection does not mean you live carelessly, thoughtlessly and without boundaries or caution. Disobedience to divine guidance and direction will expose you to danger and abuse. In protecting us from danger, God oftentimes leads us away from things, people and places that makes us more susceptible to danger. Being protected by God does not mean willfully walking into danger to prove how favored we are or how much of God’s divine power is at work for us, that would be tempting the Lord your God.
When God protects you, He sends you danger signals, He sends timely warnings to you so you can avoid being a victim. Examples abound in the scriptures of God warning the people He loves and protects to take certain measures for safety purposes. In 1 Kings 13, the young prophet was instructed by God not to eat, stay or return the same way he came, but he did the opposite and lost his life.
Joseph was warned to flee in order to protect baby Jesus, “Then, being divinely warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed for their own country another way” Matthew 2:12 NKJV.
