Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours.”

Luke 4:5-7 NKJV

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

John 3:17 NKJV

Jesus’s purpose was to save the world. He came for the salvation of mankind. He knew that very well. Everything in Him was designed to fulfill that purpose, but there is a price to be paid, a painful path to take but it was ultimately the only way to the fulfilment of God’s purpose for His life and the promotion that awaited Him.

But then the devil provided an alternative, another way, a different way to, as it were, achieve the same purpose which often appears easier and harmless.

What is your goal in life? What are your pursuits? What is your dream? What are you gunning after? I can bet that there are alternatives from the path of diligence and integrity. Because indeed, there always is. A less stressful way to get whatever you want albeit it will involve you towing the path of unrighteousness.

It is safe to say that if Jesus had taken the alternative the devil presented, Jesus would have forfeited His victory over the devil and aborted God’s mission of redeeming man. Mankind would have been lost for all eternity. The devil seemed to be offering him the real deal in that juicily poised alternative to dying on the cross to gain authority over all the earth but Jesus knew that this was too cheap to be the real deal, too easy to be credible and too false to be true.

So when life presents you with alternative to righteousness, and believe it will, what will you do?
