The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.  For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.

Matthew 8:8-9 KJV

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

Proverbs 18:21 NKJV

The story of the centurion is quite the fan favorite with students of the scriptures and teachers of the Word particularly on the subject matter of faith. There is a more unpopular dimension to this story however. Apart from just trusting that Christ was the messiah and that He had immense power, the centurion, recognizing the authority of Jesusโ€™ words, asked him to โ€œspeak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.โ€

Life and death are in the power of the tongue and the centurion knew this. As believers who choose to live by this creed, there are some things we must fully understand:

  • We have authority on earth. Why?
  • On the grounds of creation, God has given us Dominion on earth.
  • As covenant children of God, the power of God backs our words.
  • Jesus have given us authority in heaven and on earth.
  • There’s power in our Words.
  • Angels harken to the voice of our words which are ideally Godโ€™s words.

All this power and authority we possess here on earth can only be activated with our words. Until our Words is released, their power and authority remain dormant. But when they’re released, nature responds in obedience to our commands.

Anyone who has learned to utilize the power and the authority of their words will reign on earth.
