He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.

Psalms 1:3 NKJV

On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

John 7:37-39 NKJV

Oftentimes water or river is used to represent the Holy Spirit. Therefore a tree planted by the rivers of water is a life that enjoys the outpouring and the manifestation of the Holy Spirit. It is a life lived and influenced by the Holy Spirit. Let’s take a look at what such a life is like.

Such a life enjoys revelation knowledge, divine technical know-how, and unexplainable insight. “How did you get the answer?” “I don’t know, I just knew it in my heart.” But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor has entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him. But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.” (I Corinthians 2:9-12 NKJV).

Such a life enjoys supernatural help. Oftentimes, people are focused on the outside for help, but most of the people you’re looking unto are not able to help you the way the Holy Spirit can. And sometimes many of them are as confused and helpless as you, if not even worse. “If you love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever — the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” (John 14:15-17 NKJV). ”Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groaning which cannot be uttered.” (Romans 8:26 NKJV).

Such a life enjoys divine leading, knowing what to do per time. Questions like “How did you know what to do?” characterize such lives. And responses like “I just had a prompting in my heart,” is the only thing that can be said. “Of the sons of Issachar who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, their chiefs were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their command” (I Chronicles 12:32 NKJV). “Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left” (Isaiah 30:21 NKJV). These are the characteristics of a led life.
