And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men?
I Corinthians 3:1-3 NKJV
If you refuse to grow and mature as a believer, you can’t resemble your father. Jesus says, “he who has seen me has seen the Father,” “I and my Father are one,” “What I see the father do, the son does likewise,” “be yet imitators of God as dear children.”
As a child grows he or she begins to resemble the parent, talk like the parent and acts like the parent. He or she begins to express certain characteristics and features like the parent, however without growth the child will never fully rise to a state of perfect resemblance.
At best the child will only carry a hint of resemblance or similitude to his parent because his features haven’t fully developed into a state of indisputable likeness.
As God’s children who wish to be true imitators and lookalikes of the Father we must therefore ensure that we grow through the Word.
Amen
