For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Galatians 3:26-29 NKJV
Now I say that the heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from a slave, though he is master of all, but is under guardians and stewards until the time appointed by the father.
Galatians 4:1-2 NKJV
You are God’s heir along with Christ Jesus and so there are certain privileges your son-ship entitles you to as well as certain obligations that come with the bequeath. To fully function in both capacities, that is to fully enjoy your privileges and to fulfil your obligations you must grow into certain capacities.
The dangers of not growing into said capacities are many and they include the following. For starters, you can’t enter the fullness of God for your life. There are certain things we don’t give kids because they are not mature for it. No sane parent will hand over the key to a car to a 5 year-old kid. No matter how rich the parents are, no matter how much they love the child and no matter how much the child cries.
You don’t give your adorable infant a well-seasoned, juicy chicken thigh. Oh chicken is good and tastes great, but your infant’s digestive system does not yet have the capacity to process it. Jesus told His disciples “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.” (John 16:12 NKJV). Jesus had so much revelation to share with them, so much insight, depths of God’s wisdom, unimaginable heights of glory, but they were not spiritually mature to receive it.
Your negligence of your spiritual life is denying you the privilege of feasting at the table with divinity.
