For a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again, but the wicked shall fall by calamity.

Proverbs 24:16 NKJV

To him that overcomes will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

Revelation 3:21 KJV

He that overcomes shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Revelation 21: 7-8 KJV

Everyone desires to be a champion, a winner, an overcomer in life. But those very words suggest a struggle, conflict, trials, battles, fights. It suggests contest, competition, tournament, dispute, opposition, challenges, rivals, contestants, contenders.

There are oppositions. There are contestants. There are those who also wants the same thing you’re aiming for. There are rivals who don’t want you to arrive at your target. There is resistance, challenges etc.

But oftentimes people want the crown without the contest, the testimonies without the trials, and the success without the struggles. But may I remind you, your being born is a product of contest – you won!!! Millions of sperm swam towards the egg, some died on the way, others were too weak to continue, and some arrived too late. But you beloved, you competed, survived, broke through and triumphed. Victory is in your DNA. You have inside of you the trait of a champion. You have, by experience, learned to win. However, we’ve been wrongly educated, misinformed by religion, socialized the wrong way, made to believe in a lie, thereby dulling the victory in us, burying the winner in us. The go-getter in us has been reduced to a wisher and a hoper.

Here’s what true champions keep at the back of their minds when the going gets tough:

Count it not strange – you are not the only one going through it. “Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you” (I Peter 4:12 NKJV). You’re not the only one. It’s the path of all champion. “Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world” (1 Peter 5:9 KJV).

They don’t give up, they don’t quit. So make up your mind. Don’t quit!
