We began yesterday with some of the reasons why people turn back in the face of adversity and as promised, we shall continue on that subject today.

  1. Because of fear. Hence, God says unto us ‘fear not’. There are about 365 ‘fear not’s in the Bible; one for each day of the year. When you wake up in the morning say to yourself “thus says the Lord to you (insert your name here) fear not.” When you confront any situation and fear wants to sneak in on you, repeat it to yourself – “thus says the Lord, fear not.” When worry and anxiety want to envelope you, remind yourself God’s says “don’t be anxious about anything, but in all things by prayer and supplication make your request known to God.” When cares want to subsume you, remind yourself God says to “cast all your cares on Him, for He cares for you.”
  1. They know not the scriptures nor the power of God.
  1. Because they don’t know God’s love for them.
  1. Because of living in sin. Sin erodes your confidence, stirs up guilt, makes you feel unworthy and unqualified thereby eroding your confidence in God’s love for you. But sin need not interfere with our walk with God. He has made provision for us through the blood of Jesus, all we need to do is confess our sins and He will forgive and cleanse us.

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to FORGIVE US OUR SINS, AND to CLEANSE us from ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS” (1 John 1:8-9 KJV).

And now that we know some of these reasons why we may likely turn back in the face of opposition and adversity, we can now start out from here and forge ahead to standing firm on the battle ground.

Stay tuned as we continue tomorrow.
