Yesterday we started out with delineating the categories or dimensions of consequences we experience through the natural order of things here on earth. Let us continue shall we.
- The third category of consequences is the effect and impact of the activities of the fallen man on nature, both direct and remote, both poor and sublime, spiritual and scientific/natural. The example of man’s impact on nature includes desertification, erosion, weathering, and thunder killing people by spiritual manipulations of the elements, animal extinction due to hunting, poaching etc. That’s why we ask God to deliver us from evil.
- Consequences of the degraded nature resulting from the fall of man: The world is upside down. The whole world is subject to corruption, man often suffers the consequences of this at different times in what we call ‘acts of God’ but in the actual sense they are the effect of the consequences of the fall of man. Nature is now subject to the corruption of the devil and as such, it misbehaves. That’s why Jesus prayed to the Father to keep us from the evil one and that’s why we’ve been given authority in the name of Jesus to cast out demons, to tread on snakes, scorpions and every power of the devil.
When you see things happening in the world, it is not God judging or punishing the world, the day for that will come, but it hasn’t come yet. For now, God is calling the world to repentance. The age of the church is the age of grace. This grace opens the door of mercy and restrains the full power of Satan from destroying mankind.
PRAYER: Dear God, in the midst of the natural consequences of the nature of this fallen and depraved world, uphold me in Jesus’ name.
Amen
